Welcome to my blog

Please don't remind me that I'm poor; I'm having too much fun pretending I'm simply "living green" like everyone else these days.

THANK YOU EVERYONE

The suggestions sent to me were extremely helpful. The encouragement comments helped too and I appreciate them all! I did some internet searching then made a few phone calls to places I found on the net. I did get my mother an adult advocate/ombudsman with an office here in Louisville not far from me. I also found an online list of nursing homes in Kentucky. The advocate has a much more comprehensive list.... but I don't have to make any phone calls. She will do the research for me. What a relief!

I thought I'd explain my mother's medical problems so you better understand my difficulty in getting her placed somewhere.

1. Diabetes
2. Parkinson
3. Bipolar
4. Paranoid Schizophrenia
5. Altzimers
6. Dementia
7. COPD
8. 75 percent blind
9. Wears diapers
10. Violent outbursts toward other people/patients

It looks like some of these conditions could be the same but they are all listed separately in her medical files. Her conditions must be listed this way as some nursing care facilities are not licenced to handle patients with certain conditions. For example: a nursing home might take patients with dementia but are not licenced to handle Altzimers. My problem is finding a nursing home licenced for all her conditions.

If a home with a licence for all her problems can't be found in Kentucky then the search must go out of state. After thinking about it yesterday... and discussion with the advocate... I realize her care is much more important than my convenience. If she must go out of state to receive what medical care she needs then me visiting her is less important.

The advocate will take a lot of the burden off me by doing all the research and moving arrangements. She said she will get back with me in a few days. The home where my mother is right now cannot simply set her out. They must be sure there is placement somewhere else before the discharge.

The reason my mother can't stay at the home where she is now is because her conditions have gotten worse than when she was first admitted. They are no longer capable of handling her special needs. Especially the violent behavior. Mom has become fixated on a couple of the patients and has tried to hurt them several times. She now requires 24 hour surveillance to prevent her from harming other people.

Hopefully my life will be a little more normal today. I hope to finish the quilt thats on the machine and get another one started. At the same time my throat is starting to hurt a little. I may be coming down with strep throat. I was exposed to it a few days ago. I'm still hopeful that I won't actually get it. If you don't see a post from me for a couple of days it will because I actually did get sick.

Thank you for letting us know how things are going. What a heart breaking situation. Sounds like the advocate was helpful on a number of levels. Hang in there. I will keep you and your mother in my prayers.

So sorry for all your mother problems. That is certainly an impressive list of ailments. I would think that if she is in danger of hurting other people that a good strong sedative might be in order. Though I suppose with the way things are nowadays any form of restraint is illegal, even drugs. I hope you get it all worked out soon, the stress doesn't do you any good either.

Where is the quality in this woman's life. Hardly fair.
Good luck.
